What is it?

Betaine HCL is a source of hydrochloric acid for the stomach. Pepsin is a digestive enzyme especially useful for proteins.

Each capsule contains Betaine HCL 520 mg and pure, lactose-free porcine Pepsin equivalent to 21 mg Pepsin at 1:15,000 potency.
Other ingredients include hypo-allergenic plant fiber, vegetable capsule.

According to the manufacturer:

"Betaine HCl and pepsin are gastric-juice components essential to the digestion of food and absorption of most nutrients. In particular, betaine HCl is necessary for adequate absorption of protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and iron. The low pH of the stomach's hydrochloric acid destroys ingested bacteria and microorganisms. This formula can be beneficial for anyone seeking enhanced digestive function.

Betaine HCl Pepsin provides optimal nutritional support for a well-functioning digestive system."

Individuals with a history of peptic ulcers, gastritis, or gastrointestinal symptoms should consult their physician before taking betaine HCl. People taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cortisone-like drugs, or other medications that might cause a peptic ulcer should not take betaine HCl. Consult with your physician for more information.

This product should not be confused with Betaine or Trimethylglycine (TMG.)
